Senior Bridget Szawlowski scores twice, keeping the momentum going just 30 seconds into the second half, but an ankle injury forced her to spend the rest of the game on the bench.
The Devil's and the Tigers meet once more, but this time the game was played on the Devil's home turf. Coming off a tough loss to the Tigers just last week, the Devil's were ready for a win. The first draw is up in the air and the battle for the loose ball begins. Northampton's Sierra Hart came up with the ball to pass off to Emily King to score the first goal of the game for the Devil's. Just minutes later, Erin King and Bridget Szawlowski were able to work out a series of give-and-goes which eventually lead to a goal by Szawlowski.
Junior Bridget Keefe makes a move to goal in the second half putting in one of her two goals for the game.
South Hadley was able to answer back with their own three goals, two by Kelly Tierney and one Kelsey Davey. Northampton's defense had a huddle on the field to discuss what was working and what still needed to change. It was decided that communication was a big element and constant talking between defenders was necessary to keep the Tigers out of the offensive end. With the Devil's defense stepping up and their offense being on the top of their game, Julia Sullivan dialed it up and added two more to the scoreboard for the Devil's before the half. Putting Hamp on top with four goals, and the Tigers with only three goals.
Northampton knew that South Hadley was not done, and would come out of the break all fired-up so the the Devil's knew they had to play tough to secure the victory. Bridget Swaz made sure that the Tigers knew that the Devils were serious about their plans to win this game. Just 25 seconds after the draw of the half, Szawlowski recieved a pass from Bridget Keefe and with good shot selection was able to dump a high shot past the Tigers goal keeper Lindsay Brandts. Of course it wasn't over yet, as the Orange and Black answered back in less than 30 seconds bringing them back within one goal.
Late in the second half, junior defender Casey Ferriter is swarmed by frustrated South Hadley attackers, but she maintained possession and got the ball out to the midfielders.
The game continued end-to-end with plenty of opportunities, but Hamp keeper, Jenny Long stepped up her game in the second half with several big saves that really frustrated the Tigers. With Bridget Swaz out after rolling her ankle, the rest of the team stepped it up and Bridget Keefe and Emily King combined on the next two goals. First King to Keefe and then Keefe to King bringing the Devil's lead to three. The Tigers answered back again. South Hadley wasn't ready to quit and the answered with a goal to bring them within two. It was a defensive battle for the next ten minutes with Weston, Duffy, and Sawula holding down the back field and Emily King, Fleming and Ferriter taking turns going end-to-end at the wing positions. Erin King broke it open with sweet shot to tickle the strings on a slick pass from Sammy Sarvet, but within a minute the Tigers roared just one last time. Bridget Keefe finished off the Devil scoring to make the final score 9 goals for Hamp and only 6 goals for South Hadley.
